What to do with your salt chlorination pool in winter

Qué hacer con la piscina de cloración salina en invierno

The season for swimming in private pools is coming to an end, so you must be prepared now that winter is coming. Once the summer season is over and the bad weather has set in, we must consider what to do with our salt chlorination pool. Are you prepared?

Salt electrolysis allows us to keep the water clean and disinfected for 5 to 7 years without having to empty the pool. In addition, Innowater does not recommend that pools are ever completely emptied as this can damage the structure of the installation and it wastes many litres of water.

Over-wintering a pool is a process that must be performed when the temperatures drop, and you will no longer be able to enjoy using the pool regularly. Special care must be taken when preparing a salt chlorination pool for winter in order to protect the water and the installation as a whole. Here we will show you the steps to follow to take care of your installation during the new season:

  • Thoroughly clean the pool with a pool cleaner and clean the pump pre-filter and skimmer baskets.
  • Make sure the water pH is between 7.2 and 7.4. Checking and regulating this parameter will be easier with a pH control mechanism.
  • Place a tarpaulin or cover over the pool to maintain the temperature and prevent dirt from entering the water.
  • Regardless of the water temperature, with a salt chlorinator you do not need to use specific over-wintering products: it will continue to generate chlorine, although in lower doses. The water will remain clean with the chlorinator working at 50% capacity and running for one hour a day or 7 hours one day a week.

By following these guidelines, you will be sure to enjoy your pool again when the good weather returns. If you need assistance in preparing your salt chlorination pool for winter, you can contact us by completing this form.
